sense and ability to spot a good video?
Then Mediahuis, publisher of the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent and Sunday World, has a brilliant opportunity for you. We are looking for a Video Desk Journalist who will work collaboratively across our newsroom to find and get news and viral video content. The ideal candidate will be passionate about news and know what is trending online. They will help our online publishing and audience teams to find videos that will attract views and dominate the news agenda.
Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
- At least 2 years’ experience of producing and editing video
- Proficiency editing video in Adobe Premiere Pro or similar
- Excellent working knowledge of social media and other digital tools
- An understanding of online analytics
- Experience of creating social media video format
Responsibilities:
A video desk journalist as part of the Irish Independent newsroom & video team and is responsible for making sure our video content is delivered to the right audience, at the right time, on the right platform.
You will be responsible for curating video pages and placing videos into appropriate articles across our titles. You will have a deep understanding of how online readers consume news and be adept at using data to inform your decisions. You must have excellent editorial judgment and work collaboratively with the news desk, audience and video teams. You will also manage the video acquisition process with content creators and eyewitnesses.
Role Responsibilities (Overview)
- Source, edit and publish video in a consistent style and tone
- Manage the video output and distribute our video content to reach the widest possible audience
- Deliver our video content across our social media channels
- Curate the video page and video sections across our titles
- Source User Generated Content
- Ingest and upload video, creating suitable metadata
- Develop creative, innovative ways of telling stories with video
- Produce and script video, liaising with journalists and editors
- Use data from many different sources to help generate ideas and identify subjects that will interest our audiences
- Use news wires and social listening to source additional video
- Work with Audience Editors to make sure our video reaches the widest possible audience
- Carry out your duties at all times in accordance with the Mediahuis Editorial Code of Practice and relevant professional and legal codes.
