QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Experience in systems or software engineering, and/or project execution roles
  • Demonstrates communication, documentation, and collaboration/teamwork skills
  • Experience making decisions that impact cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Experience interfacing directly with both internal and external customers including presentations and issue resolution
  • Experience leading others

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  • Program/project/product leadership experience with schedule, budget, and providing technical guidance to a team of engineers.
  • Experience driving accountability and predictable performance in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience with products developed in Microsoft Windows Visual Studio & Eclipse with Ada, C/C++/C#, Python &/or Matlab Simulink.
  • Life-cycle product support of software or simulation related products.
  • Experience and an understanding of system or systems environments and leading a program through all phases

The Collins Aerospace, Virtual Avionics Engineering (VAE) team in Cedar Rapids, IA is expanding due to increased demand for simulation training software that is derived from real-time aircraft operational flight programs and extended with ARINC-610 simulation standards and customer driven requirements. The VAE Team is seeking a Technical Project Engineer to join our team in Cedar Rapids, IA.
The retargeted simulation software models aircraft systems from low level data bus flows to high level peer to peer subsystem communication and is built on top of proprietary graphics drawing libraries and runtime executives. Resulting in high fidelity solutions that are optimized to range in use from Windows Desktop to Virtual Reality to certified Full-Flight Simulator applications. We are looking for motivated individuals with a keen desire to create innovative solutions and contribute with little oversight, sound judgement, and a focus on continuous product improvement. Our fast-paced environment requires strong ownership, attention to detail, and teamwork skills that contribute to a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

This position supports the development and integration of training devices, software, and systems utilizing advanced PC computing, gaming, and display technologies. The focus is on training Flight Crews and Ground Crews in the use of Collins aircraft avionics systems across Commercial and Military domains.

  • Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to define and execute product line strategies, ensuring alignment with customer and business requirements.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface to customers and regulatory authorities.
  • Support the release of required project artifacts and communicate program status to relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with support organizations to ensure project completion.
  • Plan program scope, schedule, and budget in accordance with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Drive technical program execution and product integration, ensuring achievement of technical goals and Design to Cost (DTC) targets.
  • Decompose program requirements accurately and oversee design, development, verification, and validation processes.
  • Provide technical direction to integrated project teams (IPTs) to execute product line plans.
  • Manage scope, change control, risk, and the Change Control Board (CCB) processes.
  • Oversee product verification, certification, budget, and schedule adherence.
  • Request necessary resources and support appropriate technical staffing.
  • Assist in market analysis documentation and ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and risk management.
  • Collaborate directly with customers to integrate and support software within their training systems.
  • Up to 25% travel both domestic and international to customer sites and industry demonstrations may be needed.

    The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
