Title: Virtual Mental Health Nurse, FNVSUPS
Salary: $91,965 - $110,933 per year (pay range explained below)
Contract: Term until July 31, 2026
Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday
Location: Hybrid- Alberni Office
Bargaining Unit: PIPSC BCFNHA Group (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada)
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized university.
Occupational Certification
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 3 years of recent related experience in acute and/or community mental health setting.
- Experience working with clients actively in addiction or recovery preferred.
- Experience working with and delivering health services to First Nations clients
- Training in anti-Indigenous racism response and cultural safety and humility
- Experience integrating holistic Indigenous approaches with Western approaches
KNOWLEDGE
- Strong knowledge and ability to apply of cultural safety, humility and trauma informed approaches to practice.
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply, an understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols in work situations.
- Knowledge of concurrent disorders and complexity of intergenerational trauma on addiction.
- Understanding of own intersectionality, power, privilege, and how these concepts may impact own work and perspectives.
- Strong knowledge of the content and applications of the mental health
- Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in group dynamics, individual counselling and family therapy

Responsibilities:
With a strong view to providing access to culturally safe, high quality care closer to home, FNHA launched 2 virtual service pathways in 2020: 1) The First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day (FNvDOD), and 2) The First Nations Virtual Substance Use and Psychiatry Service (FNvSUPS). These two services currently provide virtual access to primary care, substance use, and mental health services. Following the success of our first 2 years of service provision, FNHA is expanding the services and staffing mix for both pathways to further strengthen and grow the quality and capacity of the closer-to-home services we offer for Indigenous people and their family members living in BC.
Working within an innovative and growing virtual team-based care environment, the FNvSUPS Mental Health Nurse is a key role and a collaborative leader within our virtual team-based environment. The FNvSUPS Mental Health Nurse works with the multi-disciplinary team, including the psychiatrists, to provide client-centered, culturally safe and trauma-informed direct virtual mental health nursing services to clients at all life stages. The FNvSUPS Mental Health Nurse actively contributes to ensuring a racism-free and culturally safe environment for all clients, their families, and staff.
