The School of English at Birmingham City University is well-reputed for its high quality teaching, diversity of courses for both undergraduates and postgraduates, and its world-leading research and creative practice. Students are based at our city-centre campus, with its vibrant community and state-of-the-art learning and teaching facilities. The School has achieved excellent REF2014 and DLHE results and our students gave their school a first-class rating in the 2020 National Student Survey.
We are looking to recruit visiting lecturers to contribute to our BA English programme in the areas of English Language, Creative Writing, Drama and Literature and to our MA in English Linguistics (Distance Learning). We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach creative nonfiction, literary theory and broadly across English Language provision. The successful candidates should have relevant teaching experience and either have completed or be engaged in PhD study or, in the case of creative writing, be a practitioner in the field.
Applicants should apply by completing the online application, uploading a full CV and a covering letter highlighting your areas of expertise and teaching experience. Candidates are advised to remove personal information, including name to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process.
In applying for this vacancy you will be submitting your details to a Visiting Lecturer recruitment pool. Please note that Visiting Lecturer posts are part time, fixed term contracts for which a specific amount of hours work will be agreed between you and the Faculty. Visiting Lecturer posts are paid hourly and there are a range of pay rates dependant on the role.
As and when relevant teaching hours become available that your CV and experience are suitable for, you will be contacted by the Faculty directly to discuss further details. Please be aware that you are not guaranteed to hear back from the Faculty.
Recruitment pools will be closed at the end of September each year, at which point you will be contacted with an invite to resubmit your details for the following year’s recruitment pool if you would still like to be considered.
