JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTING TO: Food Services Supervisor/General Services Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Have a high school diploma or working towards completion of high school diploma. Previous work experience in long term care or seniors housing an asset. Current food handlers’ certificate. Ability to read and write English as well as to understand verbal and written instructions in English. Ability to communicate effectively with other staff, residents, families, and the public. Mentally and physically able to perform duties and maintain regular attendance. Ability to work with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner. Demonstrated concern and interest in providing quality care and service for residents. Complete all education as required by Extendicare

Responsibilities:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor/General Services Supervisor, or designate, the Dietary Aide assists in the preparation and service of resident meals and nourishments, supports the overall operation of the kitchen by completing other tasks as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in meal preparation and serving of food and beverages such as but not limited to: sets up meal trays and steam carts; transporting food to dining rooms; serving meals; meeting residents needs by responding to requests. Maintains a high level of cleanliness and sanitation within the dining room(s) and kitchen by following scheduled cleaning routines and cleaning guidelines for equipment. Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Extendicare, the facility and the Dietary Department. Participates in evaluating services provided by the Department to residents under the facility Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Follows manufactures’ instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals. Adheres to “Standards of Employee Conduct”, “Commitment to Residents”, “Resident’s Bill of Rights” and “Extendicare Quality Framework” and Mission, Vision and Values Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunction to the supervisor. Knowledgeable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety. Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures. Respects residents’ rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner. Adheres to “Standards of Employee Conduct”, “Commitment to Residents”, and “Extendicare Quality Care Standards” and Mission, Vision and Values Works closely and cooperates with other teams and residents. Maintains good working relationships with other departments. Participates in inter-disciplinary care conferences, committees, meetings, as required. Responsible for the development and upgrading of his/her knowledge and skills. Attends inservice sessions and conferences as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.
