Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the project planning of TfL’s art programme, Art on the Underground to ensure successful execution of different art initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Curators in scoping, planning and implementing a wide variety of art commissions projects.
  • Manage art installation processes, liaising with technical staff and contractors to ensure execution of the Curator’s vision and artist’s intent.
  • Formulate technical compliance policies of Art on the Underground, working with other members of the team to ensure alignment with the overall Customer Experience strategy
  • Communicate about projects to the rest of CISE, the Customer division, TfL and external stakeholders.
  • Active in monitoring, driving, updating and reporting on programme risks, progress and project implementation to ensure safe and regulatory compliant events.
  • Deliver engagement projects for varied audiences.
  • Proactively develop positive, collaborative working relationships with all areas of the business including engineering, operational, built environment and heritage, financial and procurement colleagues and liaise to ensure that programmes are delivered successfully
  • Ensure all project documents are safely and appropriately archived following project completion to enable effective knowledge management
  • Undertake financial planning and forecasting for all Art on the Underground projects, including managing financial aspects Art on the Underground’s programme and supporting procurement processes.
  • Ensure all production processes such as print, design, fabrication and installation of art commissions are executed on time, to budget and to the desired quality and creative standards.
  • Line manage the Assistant Producer, supporting them in delivering their objectives.

KNOWLEDGE

  • A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional qualifications or suitable professional experience
  • Knowledge of contemporary visual arts and cultural sectors in London and internationally
  • Substantial relevant work experience in a similar field
  • Knowledge of complex project delivery, and how to develop a prioritised workplan
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and cost control processes
  • Knowledge of public transport issues in general, TfL’s operation in London and different customer groups.
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation
  • An appreciation of relevant national and corporate standards, guidelines and processes.
  • An appreciation of the business case development process.

SKILLS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to utilise skills to influence others and present convincing arguments
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and to judge priorities while ensuring accurate outputs
  • Ability to understand and manage the financial aspects of multiple projects
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints in an environment of high expectation and pressure
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Photoshop and project management programmes

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in developing and delivering contemporary arts and cultural programmes
  • Experience in project management and developing and managing a prioritised work programme
  • Experience in working collaboratively with a team.
  • Experience of managing the impact of cultural activity on business processes
  • Experience of participating in multiple teams and actively working to several different management requests simultaneously
  • Experience of influencing senior stakeholders

Responsibilities:

Art on the Underground works with artists to change the way people experience our city. The programme commissions leading artists on a huge range of projects – live performance, temporary projects and major permanent works. London Underground has worked with leading artists and designers throughout its history. Art on the Underground continues in this tradition.
The programme is delivered by a dedicated team led by the Head of Art on the Underground. There is an exciting opportunity to join the team for a 12 month fixed term as Producer, working specifically to manage the technical, financial and project delivery aspect of our programme.
As an experienced specialist, the role holder is accountable for all aspects of execution of art commissions, including technical, financial, compliance, operational and project management components to bring to life the different artistic commissions, events and projects planned by the Art on the Underground team.
The Producer is responsible for maintaining an overall schedule of activity for Art on the Underground, involving strategic planning for the programme, working collaboratively with the team to ensure successful execution of Art on the Underground, which supports the vision of Transport for London and the Mayor.
You will have a degree or equivalent experience in the arts or a related cultural field. With proven relevant work experience in the sector, you will have built up excellent project management skills, and have an appreciation of working with artists and the wider cultural sector. You will be able to manage a number of projects simultaneously, prioritising your work and maintaining a flexible approach. You will have good experience in financial procedures and delivering artists’ projects to deadline, be able to work as part of a collaborative team, and be passionate about bringing contemporary art to a huge public audience.
