About Us
Are you a creative person with an itch for science? Do you think in images and are you fluent in social media and AI? Then this is the perfect position to integrate your current studies, gain practical experience and build a portfolio with strong online visibility (social media, website, journalists). You’ll join a small (one-person) but dedicated PR & Press team at a renowned research institute of the Max Planck Society to help communicate cutting-edge scientific research to broader audiences—both online and in print. You can learn more about our researchers’ topics (4 departments covering Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science).
You’ll turn our researchers’ breakthroughs in the “world of hidden dimensions” into visual content that resonates with journalists, social media followers, and the general public.

Your tasks

  • Design simple and effective infographics for press releases and online news articles
  • Design charts and graphs for print publications and social media (, , )
  • Take and edit photos (portraits of scientists at work, group photos) for press releases, news articles, social media
  • Occasionally assist in designing presentations and promotional materials such as flyers

Your qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a relevant MA program (e.g., Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Communication Design, Scientific Illustration
  • Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Photoshop
  • Familiarity with AI image-generation tools (e.g., MidJourney)
  • Strong command of English (B2 level)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with shooting and editing short videos for social media (e.g., Instagram Reels), for instance using DaVinci Resolve
  • Basic German for in-house communication
