In addition two consultants from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital participate in the strabismus services. This fellowship role is a training post for a total of 12 months. This is a replacement for the fellows currently in post due to complete in August 2025. The subspecialty is led by Rumana Hussain and the Divisional Medical Director for the Ophthalmology is Mark Batterbury.
The Trust is altering its remuneration package for the vitreoretinal fellow post, to recognise the out-of-hours work performed over and above the basic working week. The detail of that package has not yet been agreed, but will lift the basic salary by approximately 30%. It is expected that the package will be in place by the time the successful candidate starts .
The vitreoretinal fellowship includes clinical sessions of 7 surgical and 3 outpatient based roles. In addition, the assessment and organisation of retinal emergencies, organisation of theatre lists and post-operative reviews. This is under the supervision of a team of 7 vitreoretinal consultants led by R Hussain.
