The opportunity: The Vocational Consultant is a vital role in guiding individuals on their journey to re-enter the workforce. This position offers a unique career opportunity to support disability claimants in their return to the workforce.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Evaluate all pertinent information and determine if claimant is a suitable candidate for return to work or the rehabilitation program
  • Counsel/coach/advise claimants in motivational, vocational, and personal areas to support return to work efforts
  • Maintain close, frequent contact with the claimant to provide the encouragement and support throughout the RTW and rehabilitation process
  • Negotiate modified jobs for claimants who cannot perform all duties of a job as outlined in standard job descriptions either with the Policyholder or new employer
  • Identify accommodations, including assistive devices, that facilitate the RTW process
  • Work closely with claimant to develop appropriate RTW goals and plans
  • Act as a liaison between the claims and other resources and obtain, coordinate, and disseminate the information necessary to enable the claimant to work, this may include locating sources of funding or referral to state and/or federal agencies
  • Perform transferable skills analyses as needed
  • Utilize vendors as needed to assist with RTW planning
  • Maintain claim file through up-to-date documentation of telephone calls and vocational rehabilitation activity as required by established claim procedures
  • Identify occupations and their material duties and physical demands utilizing a variety of government and internal resources which may include contact with the claimant and employer
  • Participate in formal and informal triages to assist with vocational related claim issues as needed

What you will bring with you:

  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people
  • Bachelor’s degree in vocational services with master’s degree in vocational counseling or related field and CRC or preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in vocational rehabilitation services with emphasis on job coaching and placement
  • Demonstrated experience and success providing job placement services
  • Strong knowledge of return-to-work protocols
  • Experience in the disability insurance industry preferred
  • Vocational counseling and case management with individuals making job change
  • Active and positive engagement with all stakeholders to support positive return to work outcomes for claimants
  • Logic and reasoning to critically think and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Proficient in PC environment with MS Word, Excel and email systems
