Description:

If you have a passion for swimming, water-based fitness and are eager to share your skills with others, we’d love for you to join our team of volunteers. As a volunteer Aquafit Instructor, you’ll lead dynamic aquatics classes, provide guidance and support to participants, and help create a welcoming and enjoyable environment in our facilities. We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals who are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere while gaining valuable experience and giving back to the community. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age 18.
  • Volunteers age 18 and above will need to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening from their local police service before their first day of volunteering and every three years on the anniversary of their first day of volunteering.
  • Current YMCA Group Fitness Certification (or equivalent) with the designation in the stream the leader will be instructing which includes Choreography-based classes, such as Aquafit.
  • Current First Aid and CPR C required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to various situations and participant needs.
  • Team player who demonstrates initiative.
  • Dedicated to upholding the YMCA Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Willing to complete training modules to be in line with YMCA Policies
  • Obtained or willing to obtain necessary certifications
  • Prior experience a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering a group fitness class in accordance with YMCA standards and values, within the scope of your training
  • Ensuring each class is inclusive, engaging, and accessible to members of all ages and abilities.
  • Demonstrating exercises and guide participants through Aquafit classes, ensuring proper technique and participation.
  • Observing and correcting participants’ form and technique with constructive feedback, maintaining a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
  • Providing a safe environment for participants.
  • Communicating regularly with staff and volunteers to coordinate and enhance the fitness program
  • Attending trainings and meetings as required to ensure the overall quality and integrity of the Group Fitness program.
  • Responding to or directing participant inquiries or concerns.
  • Maintaining a positive, helpful, and welcoming demeanor at all times.
  • Building relationships with members and introducing them to other members, staff and volunteers.
  • Providing YMCA services with integrity, respect, and a strong commitment to care and responsibility.
