Position Title: Volunteer Assistant Aquatic Leader
Reports To: Aquatics Manager
Position Status: Volunteer

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR-C/AED
  • National Lifeguard, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, YMCA swim instruction experience are assets
  • Demonstrated safety conscious mindset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in French, Arabic, etc. an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours as required

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for always assisting in the supervision of participants and ensure a safe environment in regard to conduct, safety education/intervention, regulatory and policy compliance, and equipment usage. Ensures pool safety through supervision and public education on swimming safety and pool rules
  • Assisting in the recognition and prevention of potentially dangerous situations, using approved techniques for supervision of aquatic areas and users, in emergency situations; providing water rescue, first aid, and follow up. Complete any safety documentation and reporting as required
  • Assisting in conducting routine inspections of facility’s public areas to ensure hazards are corrected and mitigated, maintenance issues are addressed, and participant safety is maintained.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities as to ensure compliance with up to date Aquatic standards, identification of new/innovative program offering, and progression through Aquatics certification path.
  • Build, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with participants, community members, staff and volunteers through positive internal/external communications, timely response to questions.
  • Collaborate and provide support to Association program areas as needed, including promotion of the Y in the community, enhance member engagement, and to participate with event marketing/promotion activities.
  • Other duties as assigned
