Description:
Are you interested in developing, co-ordinating and implementing a volunteer services and community partnership program? If so, join the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Cecil Facer Youth Centre to promote the facility’s community and public relations functions related to volunteer and community partnership programs.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- You have knowledge of the theories, principles and objectives of a wide variety of volunteer programs/services, community resources, advertising techniques and adult training techniques to recruit, orient, train and supervise community partners and volunteers
- You have knowledge of accepted volunteer motivational theories to place volunteers in meaningful assignments
- You can acquire knowledge of relevant legislation such as Youth Criminal Justice Act, Ministry of Correctional Services Act, Criminal Code of Canada, and Child and Family Services Act
- You have knowledge of community agencies and resources required to identify appropriate volunteer resources, establish and maintain communication and obtain support for volunteer activities
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
- You have oral and written communication skills to convey facts and information clearly
- You have presentation skills to explain the program and the facility’s roles and philosophy
- You have interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships
- You have supervisory skills to supervise and monitor the performance of volunteers and community partners
ANALYTICAL AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
- You have excellent organizational skills to maintain effective database operation
- You have analytical and problem solving skills to resolve issues and assess suitability when screening applicants
- You have the ability to investigate concerns and resolve problems
COMPUTER SKILLS
- You have the ability to acquire knowledge of facility administrative procedures and the use of the computerized offender management system
- You have experience with word processing software packages to input/retrieve resident data, prepare reports, correspondence and maintain statistics
- You can use audio visual equipment for presentations
Responsibilities:
- Identify volunteer needs
- Develop, implement, coordinate and monitor volunteer program
- Liaise with facility staff to monitor volunteer participation
- Build and expand links between Ministry programs and community services
- Develop and maintain ongoing databases to collate information and statistics regarding volunteers and community resource activity
