Description:
The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for building and maintaining a strong volunteer base for the Salvation Army Fort St. John, its programs, campaigns and events.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- At least two (2) years of community college
First Aid/CPR Level One Certificate
Experience:
At least two (2) years of prior experience working with volunteers and/or volunteer programs
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Support for and an understanding of mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Friendly disposition with public
- Attentive listening, empathy to staff, clients, and volunteers
- Team oriented and able to take initiative, willingness to work with people from diverse cultural background.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

- Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.

Responsibilities:
- Promotes the Salvation Army Fort St. John Volunteer program; reaches out to and makes presentations to businesses, community groups, service clubs, schools, churches.
- Recruits and orients volunteer, collaborates with various program and department heads to identify, fill and maintain all facility and thrift store volunteer positions.
- Maintains a year-round focus on the Salvation Army Fort St. John Christmas program and fundraising volunteer needs, with an emphasis on fully and adequately resourcing the Kettle Campaign through targeting individuals, groups and businesses to act as Christmas Kettle workers, drivers and other support worker positions.
- Develops and maintains volunteer promotional material and volunteer job descriptions for all the Salvation Army Fort St. John volunteer positions.
- Plans and hosts volunteer appreciation events.
- Assists in the development of volunteer related policy and procedures and volunteer handbook.
- Responds to complaints and assists with performance management, discipline and/or resolving conflicts involving volunteers.
- Always looks for ways to expand the Volunteer program and increase the number of volunteers serving in all of the Salvation Army Fort St. John departments.
- Develops, maintains and ensures the security of the Salvation Army Fort St. John volunteer database and volunteer personnel records.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
HOURS: 20 hour per week, Mon- Fri, 4 hour shift TBD
During fall fundraising season (Nov-Dec), may be required to work a flexible schedule including afternoon (noon-8pm) shifts as well as a Tuesday through Saturday work week.
