Role Details
As a logistics leadership volunteer, you will be part of our organizing committees of 10 to 15 volunteers who will work over the months to help us organize our fundraising events. Depending on the needs in your community, available roles could include committee lead, logistics, community outreach, volunteer lead, and social media.
Description

As the Volunteer Engagement Lead you will be responsible for:

  • Leading all aspects of volunteer needs
  • Recruiting volunteers to meet pre-event and event needs using CCS materials, liaising with CCS Volunteer Engagement staff to tap into additional supports.
  • Managing volunteer event shifts in CCS’s online scheduling tool, answering volunteer inquiries, and preparing volunteers for a great event.
  • Working with all committee members (Logistics and Community Engagement) to ensure all volunteer needs are fulfilled and a strong team of people are in place with the flexibility to meet changing event demands.
  • Facilitating a well-organized and positive volunteer experience from check-in to check-out so that volunteers leave Relay knowing they’ve been part of something special and wanting to come back again!
  • Working with the Volunteer Experience Business Partner team to secure event day volunteers

Why we need you
At CCS we are committed to improving the cancer experience by helping people with cancer live their lives more fully. The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life brings together communities united by the same goal of creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer. Relay is an opportunity to celebrate those who live and have lived in the face of cancer.

What we’re looking for

  • You understand that cancer can change everything and that bringing community together in support of people who have been affected by cancer helps us prove that life is bigger than cancer.
  • You are enthusiastic and supportive toward the efforts of others and with an eye on excellent customer service, work to make sure volunteers have a great experience.
  • You have connections in your community and are excited about providing others the opportunity to make a difference by giving a few hours of their time.
  • You enjoy helping people do their best work by setting volunteers up for success through orientation and clear communication.
  • You are ready to do your best to make the volunteer experience a positive and meaningful experience as you connect with each volunteer on the day of the event.

Our Investment
As an organization, we will provide you with online resources, training and support to help you lead the volunteer side of this community event. You will also be supported by the Relay Director, Logistics, a fellow volunteer, who will oversee all aspects around implementing the actual event day.
You will be part of the larger Relay community and have opportunity to learn and mentor as you engage with CCS staff and volunteers.

Your commitment

  • This is an important leadership role. We are anticipating an ongoing level of commitment which will include regular monthly meetings with the entire committee.
  • Between the committee meetings, you will be reaching out to other committee members and venues in your area that may promote Relay For Life volunteer opportunities.
  • You will communicate regularly and consistently with the other volunteers on the committee whose responsibilities overlap with yours.
  • You will also stay connected with the Relay Director, Logistics.
  • As the event date approaches your time commitment will increase. On event day your leadership, as you ensure the event is safe and fun, will be critical in creating the sense of accomplishment that everyone will go home with, knowing that their actions have created something bigger than cancer.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading all aspects of volunteer needs
  • Recruiting volunteers to meet pre-event and event needs using CCS materials, liaising with CCS Volunteer Engagement staff to tap into additional supports.
  • Managing volunteer event shifts in CCS’s online scheduling tool, answering volunteer inquiries, and preparing volunteers for a great event.

  • Facilitating a well-organized and positive volunteer experience from check-in to check-out so that volunteers leave Relay knowing they’ve been part of something special and wanting to come back again!
  • Working with the Volunteer Experience Business Partner team to secure event day volunteer
