POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Vice President of Human Resources of the Saratoga Regional YMCA is an individual with strategic thinking and operational prowess. As the VP of HR, your responsibilities will encompass developing and executing strategies across all HR functions, including recruitment, talent management, compensation, benefits, compliance, and employee relations. Additionally, you’ll lead the design and implementation of solutions supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging DEI initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you’ll collaborate closely with Senior Leadership Team and SRYMCA employees to achieve organizational priorities and success.
We are a mid-major YMCA with a 20+ million-dollar budget, 6 branches and over 700 employee’s Y in Upstate New York.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in leadership development, organizational development, human resources or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 10 years progressive experience in one of the following related fields: leadership development, organizational development or human resources in a dynamic and challenging environment with multiple branches/units as key stakeholders.
  • 10 years’ experience in a senior management role
  • Demonstrated experience as a strategic business advisor/partner working with all levels of an organization in a dispersed business environment.
  • Deep knowledge of all HR functions, specifically experience administering an array of talent management functions and processes including recruitment, engagement, compensation, benefits design and delivery, performance management and learning and leadership program delivery.
  • Strong command of HR technology and software.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, change management, presentation and negotiation skills serving a diverse community.
  • Current knowledge of employment trends and the potential impact on organizational strategies and goals.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of employee relations and safety, necessary to achieve compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and Board adopted policies of the Association.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing others.
  • SHRM Certification
  • SPHR or PHR preferre

Responsibilities:

  • Creates a vibrant cause-centered culture for staff and volunteers.
  • Participates in strategic planning for the organization. Provides leadership and consulting support to executives and management on matters of reinforcing culture, setting goals, developing policy, and implementing strategic objectives. Aligns organizational structure, roles, and responsibilities to achieve goals.
  • Fosters the development of staff and volunteers at all levels in the organization by engaging in ongoing feedback and coaching, creating succession plans, and providing resources and support for informal and formal learning at all levels.
  • Oversees talent management, including staff training and leadership development, retention, recognition, employee communication and career development. Assesses and evaluates training and staff development needs, and develops programs to meet needs.
  • Creates organizational policies and structures that remove barriers and foster equity and inclusion for all.
  • Develops and maintains performance management and appraisal programs. Provides assistance to employees and supervisors with questions and workplace problems.
  • Oversees compensation and benefit programs, including job description and classification, salary structure and salary adjustments. Oversees benefit plan communication, enrollment and administration. Assesses the competitiveness of human resources programs and practices against the relevant markets and makes recommendations for improvements and changes.
  • Remains current with employment laws and regulations. Maintains an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources and manages relationships with compliance agencies and YMCA legal counsel.
  • Oversees HR systems and employee records to ensure accuracy and improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization. Ensures timely and accurate submission of data requested by the EEOC, YMCA of the USA, Department of Labor, etc.
  • Works directly with assigned committees of the Board of Director’s (Human Resources, Executive Compensation, Staff Development) to build volunteer relationships, develop policies, oversee policy implementation and meet the related needs of the board.
  • Ensures bi-weekly payroll for 700+ staff is run correctly and in compliance with applicable federal and statutory requirements.
  • Develops staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs. Identifies and cultivates appropriate and effective sources for candidates for all levels of jobs.
  • Provides direction to assigned staff in the performance of their duties, establishing work priorities in achieving strategic and operating plan goals; prepares and manages associated budgets.
  • Leads the Safety Committee for all 6 branches of the SRYMCA.
  • Provides guidance for safety audits and ongoing improvements.
  • Models 5’s principles throughout the organization.
