An der Fakultät für Verhaltens- und Empirische Kulturwissenschaften der Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg ist ab dem Wintersemester 2026/2027 eine
FULL PROFESSORSHIP (W3) FOR “SPORTS SCIENCE WITH A FOCUS ON SPORT AND EDUCATION” (F/M/D)
starting in the Winter Term 2026/2027.
The future tenured position holder is expected to represent the field of sport pedagogy in its entirety, encompassing both teaching and research with empirically oriented topics that connect to the focal points of the Institute of Sports and Sports Sciences, as well as the Field of Focus 4 of the University’s Excellence Strategy, Self-Regulation and Regulation: Individuals and Societies. This may include, for instance, references to health topics from a lifespan perspective. There are many opportunities for disciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation within the framework of this thematic focus.
Teaching responsibilities include involvement in all Bachelor′s and Master′s degree programs at the Institute of Sport and Sport Science with regard to the topics of sport pedagogy, particularly in the teacher training degree programs. In addition, a commitment to the Master′s program “Sport and Exercise across the Lifespan” in the profile line “health” is also desirable.
As a university of excellence, Heidelberg University offers an inspiring academic environment. The Heidelberg School of Education (HSE) is a cross-university academic institution of Heidelberg University and Heidelberg University of Education, whose central task is to further develop the cooperation between the two universities in the field of teacher training. Close cooperation with the HSE is expected.
According to article 47 (1) of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg (LHG), requirements for application are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and pedagogical aptitude which is usually proven by teaching experience. A habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualification is also required (article 47 (2) LHG). An international orientation (e.g. proven by corresponding publications) and the acquisition of competitive third-party funding are desirable.
The position is permanent / tenured. Upon fulfillment of the general civil service and budgetary requirements, the appointment is usually made in the civil service for life from the start.
