Description:

Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll is actively seeking applicants for a Ward Clerk position. The Ward Clerk is a member of the Clinical Services team who performs receptionist and clerical functions on the patient care units.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent that is acceptable to the Hospital.
  • Medical Office Assistant (1 year program certificate) or equivalent program that is acceptable tothe hospital.
  • Medical terminology required.
  • Proven experience working in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with a patient focus.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Able to promote and maintain open communication and relationships amongst departments, staff, medical staff, volunteers.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities:

  • Accurate order entry into Power Chart.
  • Communicate STAT / URGENT and routine orders to nursing staff for timely completion.
  • Accurately transcribe Medication orders in the patient’s Medication Record (MARS).
  • Complete appropriate requisition for testing.
  • Communicate with physician to clarify orders prior to processing.
  • Accurately document physician orders in patient care plan.
  • Enter appropriate referrals orders in Power Chart and document date and times in patient care plan.
  • Fill out requisitions and fax with appropriate history, diagnostic info, medications etc. to appropriate hospital or doctor’s office for appointment.
  • Accurate documentation on patient care plans.
  • Obtain appropriate consents as required for tests.
  • Provide polite, respectful communication with physicians, nurses, patients, family and support staff of Alexandra Hospital and other institutions.
  • Answer five phone line incoming to nursing station.
  • All administration associated with scheduling ambulance transfers.
  • Assist patients by wheelchair.
  • Call in staff to cover sick time.
  • Get supplies from supply carts for isolation rooms when nurses are gowned and gloved.
  • Order supplies; Photocopy and fax; Prepare and maintain Charts; Limited Patient Registration duties as required.
  • Other duties as required.
