Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop your skills and abilities within our inpatient eating disorder team as Ward Manager.
To apply for this post, you will need to be a strong leader, who can manage an established multi-disciplinary staff group. You need to be passionate and committed to delivering high standards of care; and need to ensure that all the people use our services have a positive experience. You should also be able to work with partnership organizations delivering a safe and robust service. You must be a qualified Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with well-developed experience including management experience and have experience as a Band 6 / equivalent level or above or should have relevant transferable management experience and skills obtained in other fields.
The position of Band 7 Ward Manager will offer you an opportunity to maintain and develop your expert mental health skills and also to utilise your managerial and organisational skills to improve patient experience and develop junior staff. You will be working closely with a well-established clinical team. You will receive regular supervision and support as well as opportunities to further develop your skills, ability and career.
The post-holder will have specific responsibility for managing the day to day functioning of the ward, providing a dynamic leadership role for the ward team. Ensuring at all times that the needs of service users are at the centre of the ward philosophy, that there are good working relationships with all members of the Multidisciplinary Team and other agencies, maintaining the highest standards of care and, where necessary to take a lead role in ensuring continuous improvements in standards for the benefit of good patient care. Ensuring the most efficient management of all resources.
As part of the Trust’s ongoing drive to ensure consistently high standards of care and effective supervision of staff 24 hours a day and 7 days a week the post holder may be expected to work some shifts and at weekends.

Ensure nursing practice on the ward is in accordance with the NMC guidance, Mental Health Legislation and Trust Policies, which incorporates and respects differences in respect of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, culture and disability.
Be able to build relationship with the patients and family in order to engage them in treatment.
Be able to demonstrate warmth and empathy to service users and role model this to other staff.
Ensure that high standard of refeeding skills for eating disorders patients in the team including enthral feeding
Participate as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and ensuring the highest standards in all members of the ward team, and to work effectively in partnership with other health care professionals, patients and others in the delivery of care
To ensure that good quality clinical care and management supervision is available to all members of the ward team
When necessary to process referrals made to the service from outside agencies
Organise the duty roster for staff using e-rostering ensuring best use of resources including effective management of bank and agency staff
Attend and actively participating in clinical and management meetings
Implement and evaluate systems to monitor risk
Implement and evaluate systems to monitor cleanliness & infection control
Monitor the effectiveness of care delivery
Generate new solutions to improve service delivery and evaluate their effectiveness
Develop, promote and implement the ward philosophy, vision and values.
Ensure the maintenance of general and specific patient observations, ensuring the accurate recording of all relevant information in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures, ensuring this information are acted upon as appropriately
Ensure has good physical health care is in place for patients suffering from eating disorders
Involve in audits and other care quality tasks.( for example auditing of nursing handover)
Always to act in a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and well being of patients, visitors and colleagues and work to ensure the same standard in this area from the ward team as a whole
Co-ordinate with the OT team to ensure that patients are attending group activities and in so doing maximise therapeutic opportunities for them
Ensure that the ward team develop, implement & evaluate programmes of care using a problem solving approach that ensures the needs of each individual patient’s are met throughout their admission, including detailed arrangements for discharge, with the patient and, as appropriate, their carer central to the planning and decision making process
Ensure the safe storage and administration of drugs in accordance with legal requirements, Trust Policies and local policies and procedures
Ensure the ward emergency equipment are serviced and checked and all ward staff are aware of use, purpose and location
To act as a suitable role model for your grade of employment
To provide cover for the Clinical Nurse Manager if require
