An exciting developing opportunity has arisen within our dynamic and acute department of Vascular Surgery. Our friendly department consists of a 24 bedded mixed ward for elective and emergency surgeries.
The ultimate aim of our Ward Sister post is to provide the Department’s nursing teams with visible, supportive and confident leadership. The post-holder will liaise with the multidisciplinary team and enable a smooth transition of service. You will also directly line manage Clinical and non clinical staff members and be responsible for appraisals and the development of your team.
Reporting to the Matron, this interesting role will demand your finest leadership and organisational skills and you will have the enthusiasm and energy to help take the service forward in delivering the highest possible standards of care and patient experience. This will encompass clinical audit, risk management and driving continuous quality improvement. Supporting and developing junior staff and mentoring student nurses and associate practitioners in the area will add to your high level of job satisfaction.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of patients undergoing complex Specialist Surgery inpatient procedures.
Demonstrate initiative, dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail in preparing specialist equipment for procedures to be undertaken within the unit and developing staff to do the same.
Demonstrate the ability to concentrate, prioritise and multi task for prolonged periods of time whilst applying attention to detail and consistency of approach even in adverse conditions.
Demonstrate skill at interpreting specialist surgery clinical information, anticipating potential problems, responding to changes promptly and effectively.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate in conjunction with the interdisciplinary teams in both the acute and primary care sector the effective discharge of SSIP & Day Surgery patients.
Involve and educate patients, carers and the nursing/multi-disciplinary colleagues in Specialist Surgery care decisions.
Maintain effective channels of communication with the multi-disciplinary team and instigate and monitor any action plans required to facilitate this.
Practice and participate in the effective recruitment, selection and retention of SSIP staff and support other members of the nursing team to train to do so
