Description:

Union Film Group is looking for a Wardrobe Stylist to join our team! The Wardrobe Stylist plays a critical role in defining the visual identity of characters and enhancing the storytelling of a narrative film or series through costuming. This creative professional collaborates closely with the Director, Producers, and other key departments to ensure the wardrobe aligns seamlessly with the vision, tone, and setting of the project.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Prior experience in wardrobe styling or costume design, preferably in narrative film or television.
  • Strong understanding of fashion, textiles, and costume design, with the ability to adapt styles for different time periods, genres, and character needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to manage wardrobe continuity and large costume inventories.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight production deadlines.
    The Wardrobe Stylist brings a deep understanding of character development and visual storytelling to the production, ensuring that every costume choice enhances the audience’s connection to the story. This role requires a balance of creativity, technical expertise, and practical problem-solving to contribute meaningfully to the project’s overall success.
    Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Fixed term contract
    Pay: $50,000.00-$65,000.00 per year

Responsibilities:

  • Character and Script Analysis:

Study the script and collaborate with the Director and Producers to understand the characters, their arcs, and the narrative context. Analyze how wardrobe can communicate a character’s personality, background, and transformation throughout the story.

  • Wardrobe Design and Selection:

Designing, sourcing, or selecting costumes that fit the visual style of the project. This may involve creating mood boards, shopping for appropriate pieces, or coordinating with costume makers for custom designs.

  • Fitting Sessions and Alterations:

Organize and oversee fitting sessions with actors to ensure costumes fit well and align with the creative vision. Coordinate necessary alterations or adjustments to enhance the fit, comfort, and functionality of the garments.

  • On-Set Wardrobe Management:

Maintain costumes during production, ensuring continuity across scenes and episodes. This includes tracking costumes, managing quick changes, repairing or cleaning garments as needed, and ensuring actors are appropriately dressed for each scene.

  • Collaboration with Departments:

Work closely with the Hair and Makeup, Production Design, and Cinematography teams to maintain a cohesive aesthetic across all visual elements. Ensure wardrobe choices complement the lighting, color palette, and overall production design.

  • Research and Historical Accuracy (if applicable):

For period pieces or culturally specific settings, conduct thorough research to ensure costumes are historically or culturally accurate while aligning with the project’s creative direction.

  • Budget and Inventory Management:

Work within the allocated wardrobe budget, sourcing costumes efficiently while maintaining quality. Keep detailed records of wardrobe items, rentals, and purchases to facilitate returns or reuse.

  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability:

Handle wardrobe emergencies or last-minute changes on set with efficiency and creativity, ensuring that production schedules are not disrupted.
