Job Summary:
CSA Group has an opportunity for a Student in our Water Quality and Exposure team in Toronto for an 8-month term, commencing May 2025.
This presents an opportunity to work alongside and learn from the Water Quality laboratory technicians and build core project management and technical skills needed for future success by assuming a hands-on role supporting internal lab work, processes and project delivery.
About the Water Quality and Exposure Team
The Water Quality and Exposure team is responsible for performing a variety of testing activities to support the certification of potable water plumbing products using documented operating procedures. Product safety testing follows established procedures and requires the operation, maintenance of Laboratory and Test Measurement Equipment and using established Quality Assurance procedures. Activities involve review and understanding of various products submitted for evaluation and the application of the relevant product safety standards, testing of those products and the compiling of data and summarizing of test results into test reports in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Provides ongoing written and oral status reports to the immediate Manager and, when required, to Certifiers and Senior Laboratory Technicians. Performs specialized duties as assigned and as required.

  • A 1st to 3rd year student enrolled in the Physical Sciences Program (Chemistry, Biology, Chemical, Toxicology etc.) or Engineering (Chemical or Environmental)
  • An individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative and team-based lab environment
  • Able to a submit resume and a copy of an unofficial or official transcript

Responsibilities - What you’ll get to do at CSA Group:

Work alongside and learn from the Water Quality laboratory technicians, and build core project management and technical skills needed for future success by assuming a hands-on role supporting internal project delivery.

  • Gain knowledge and familiarity of laboratory Test Measurement Equipment and standards. i.e. CSA and US and International standards (NSF/ANSI 61, NFS/ANSI 372) Understanding testing procedures, titration, use of balances and pipettes etc.
  • Review, read and understand customer product data specifications, to be able to assess the data technically in order to prepare technical documents with regards to the applicable standard.
  • Gain insight into the preparation of certification documents, and other related CSA documentation.
  • Get involved in efficiency improvements, development and automating test forms for the lab and the certifiers and any other duties assigned or as required by Management.
  • Learn and participate in a robust ISO 17025 Quality Assurance program.

Qualifications - What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Mechanical aptitude, hands-on skills and ability to operate simple hand tools
  • Self-motivation, drive and a high level of personal accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Willingness to continually learn and advance technical knowledge and capability.
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Suite), and as required, learn and be proficient in CSA programs.
  • Organization and ability to work in fast-paced, collaborative and team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated abilities to plan, organize, prioritize, follow-through and evaluate assigned functions and duties to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet required delivery dates
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive tasks
