Description:

This role is responsible for the coordination, operating and monitoring of the wastewater treatment system. The right candidate must be able to prioritize and interact with others to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, safely and accurately. The administrative duties include data entry, discharge notification submission processing supply monitoring and the generation of monthly supply inventories.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Post-Secondary education in Water Quality Technology or Wastewater treatment/technology or an Internship in a related field is preferred
  • Relevant water treatment operator training and experience would be an asset.
  • Experience and understanding of industrial and liquid waste industry preferred
  • Knowledge of TDG, Ontario Reg. 347, Region of Durham Bylaw-55 and Ontario Health and Safety Act preferred
  • Competent computer skills (MS Windows and Office)
  • Effective verbal and written communicator
  • Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment
  • Must be safety conscious and detail oriented
  • Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision
  • Team work and coordination with other departments
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Capable of the safe handling of chemicals.
  • Able to adapt to change.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg.
  • Willing to work overtime, alternate shifts and occasional weekends

Responsibilities:

  • Gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followed
  • Understanding of the site-specific Environmental Certificate of Approvals (ECAs) and associated compliance requirements pertaining to treatment and discharge.
  • Operate water treatment systems and equipment.
  • Collect and test water samples
  • Develop wastewater treatment plans
  • Con fer with other staff with respect to water treatment plans.
  • Execute water treatment plans to ensure discharged water complies with the relevant standards.
  • Record and report operational data
  • Record and report discharge data
  • Maintain and report on processing supply inventory
  • Maintain, repair, and lubricate equipment.
  • Clean and maintain tanks and other work areas
  • Ensure the systems are optimized and maintained properly
  • On an ongoing basis, inspect and monitor all works against SOP standards where applicable to ensure the continuing quality and accuracy of work performed
  • Notify the Supervisor/Manager or their designate of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents or accidents that are identified
  • Follow procedures, safe work and hygiene practices, health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Inform management of any known occupational health and safety concerns
  • Other tasks as assigned.
