Description:
COME JOIN OUR TEAM AS: WELDING TECHNICIAN (FULL-TIME)
Applications are invited for the position of Welding Technician in the School of Trades Division, located at the Welland Campus. The starting hourly rate is $36.29/hr (Pay Band H - $36.29/hr to $42.13/hr) for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Trades, this exciting role requires the successful candidate to provide specialized technical support to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the Welding labs in the School of Trades. The incumbent co-ordinates all Weld labs related to the activities in the School of Trades by providing guidance and support to the programs, faculty and students. The incumbent is typically the first point of contact for all lab and faculty related inquiries to the School of Trades and for its use.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Incumbent must have completed an apprenticeship and have a current Certificate of Qualification 456A Welder and/or 437A Metal Fabricator/Fitter
- Five (5) years of trade related experience working with, maintaining and repairing industrial equipment and the systems that support the weld lab areas
- Proven experience working with inventory management systems and tracking and ordering of consumable supplies
- Strong team player who can work independently when required
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills along with organizational skills
- Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Proficient with standard computer software applications
- Solid knowledge of industry safety protocols
This position is open to internal employees. Internal employees are those classified as full-time permanent within the Full-Time Support Staff bargaining unit, regular part-time (RPT) employees who have completed probation, and Appendix D employees with six consecutive months of Appendix D service with the College at the time of posting.

Responsibilities:
- Daily maintenance, housekeeping and resourcing of labs
- Maintains and fixes all fabrication equipment, power tools and welders in the weld labs
- Assists Professors when requested in supervising and aiding students in laboratory work
- Works with the Program Coordinator and the Administrative Assistant of the School of Trades to ensure efficient use of labs in the creation of timetables and schedules
- Recommends and provides the appropriate equipment to students and faculty
- Provides guidance and specialized technical support to the Academic and Co-op students in the Welding programs
- Works with Program Coordinator and faculty to determine the recommended technical specifications for equipment, tools and devices by the welding programs and contact vendors for pricing, availability and delivery
- Performs daily inspections and preventative maintenance on the systems to support the welding labs such as the compressor, dust collector and ventilation system and the gas system
- Ensures that all Health and Safety requirements are met in the Weld labs and areas are neat and tidy
- As part of the Welding Team, will help compile capital budget submissions and establish material fees for related courses as required

- Must also stay up-to-date with technical trends and advancements through publications, journals and trade shows
