Our Lake Nona Family Center is seeking a creative & innovative Wellness Director to lead their healthy living team!
Job Description
Position Summary
Under the direction of the senior leader, the Wellness Director provides leadership and management of wellness programming within the Family Center. The Wellness Director manages member participation and retention through the development and execution of health and wellness programs to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all members.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; exercise science, wellness, fitness, sport management or related field of study preferred.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in wellness or customer service related field preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in staff supervision and leadership preferred.
- Previous customer service experience working in a health club, spa, or healthcare industry preferred
- CPR, First Aid, AED Certification preferred prior to hire. Must obtain within 60 days of hire
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
- Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee must be able to perform medium work.
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment
- Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members’ well-being.
- Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction
- Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
- May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time including continuous physical endurance for thirty to sixty minutes of aerobic activity.

Essential Functions
- Implement wellness, group exercise and personal training programs that promote retention of existing members and engage new members. Direct staff to support health and wellness initiatives to achieve retention goals.
- Analyze data, systems and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities within the Wellness department.
- Ensure proper implementation of wellness floor schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.
- Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the Wellness department. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance wellness participation and member retention.
- Establish systems for regularly scheduled fitness equipment inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order at all times. Coordinate and schedule equipment maintenance and repairs. Purchase equipment, parts and supplies approved by the purchase requisition process.
- Monitor daily operations to adhere to all YMCA of Central Florida health and safety standards and policies. Ensure all staff are current with required certifications.
- Create and implement wellness and lifestyle programs, personal training and group exercise participation through product knowledge and interactions with existing and potential members. Collaborate with department leads to maximize enrollments in program registration.
- Plan and execute Healthy Living events at the Family Center. Promote the Family Center and the YMCA of Central Florida’s special events among the members and community.
- Establish and lead a volunteer Healthy Living committee that assists in development and execution of membership retention efforts.
- Recruit, select, develop and retain appropriate skill depth level for the department. Supervise department staff. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
- Collaborate with the District Vice President/Executive Director to plan and manage the Wellness budget. Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines.
- Additionally, increase member retention through actively engaging 100% of members to activities as health seeker, step-up and training centers.
