JOB SUMMARY
Our Saskatoon office is looking for an experienced legal assistant to join our wills & estates team. The wills & estates legal assistant will work co-operatively with the lawyers and paralegals in the estate planning & administration group to help guide personal representatives in the process of estate administration and assist in the drafting and execution of estate planning documents. The successful candidate must be able to multi-task and prioritize workload, pay attention to detail, and have excellent organizational, communication and written skills.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Post-secondary diploma in a legal administrative assistant or paralegal program from a recognized college program
- Minimum of five years of experience in a legal assistant role supporting the wills and states practice area
- A notary public or commission of oaths appointment, or willingness to obtain
- Working knowledge of provincial laws and terminology
- Experience drafting legal documents and correspondence
- Experience in wills and estates
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to liaise with a variety of people
- Good computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure
Responsibilities:
- Drafting Wills, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives (Living Wills) and ancillary estate planning documents as required
- Maintaining vault records for storing of original estate planning records
- Gathering data and drafting estate administration documents, including court applications and ancillary documents as applicable
- Assisting in the process of realizing the assets or payments of liabilities including direct contact with various institutions
- Preparing distribution documentation
- Assisting in passing of accounts and litigious matters in relation to estate administration
- Communicating directly with clients, fielding calls from prospective clients and referring prospective clients appropriately
- Attending client meetings for signing of documents
