Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary function of the Crime Analyst is to enhance public safety by forecasting future criminal activity. Police resources will be allocated and/or deployed according to information obtained and/or provided by the Crime Analyst through the analysis of crime, calls for service, and occurrences of public disorder.
In addition to providing detailed information and recommendations regarding crime analysis, the Crime Analyst also supports investigations by finding creative solutions and answering complex data-driven problems with evidence-based solutions that are based on established research.
The Crime Analyst will also utilize Business Intelligence systems to analyze organizational data for the purpose of providing insights into organizational performance at all levels and across a broad range of performance indicators
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in crime analysis is required.
Must possess a University Degree or a three-year Community College Diploma in a program with relevance to the position responsibilities.
Must have a working knowledge of enterprise database structure.
Excellent problem-solving skills and judgement needed for analysis and developing or recommending solutions to problems of a complex nature.
Ability to maintain current working knowledge of police and criminological research and developments.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Courses and training in intelligence analysis processes, database management techniques and research methodology would be considered an asset.
Experience with data analytics and visualization software would be considered an asset.
Experience with enterprise mapping software would be considered an asset.
Experience with police records management systems and computer aided dispatch system systems would be considered an asset.
Experience with police-specific investigative/analytical software would be considered an asset.
Crime Analyst works a Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm schedule. This is a full time in-office position.
Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete a thorough background investigation.
