KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL

Grade 12 education or equivalent.
3 years of satisfactory experience operating trucks and equipment.
Knowledge and ability to operate ½ ton trucks, single axles, tandems, packers, loader-backhoes, combination units, tractor trailers as set out in Light Equipment Operator description. Plus, the ability to operate bull-dozer, large loader, grader, triaxle and/or pup trailer, float tractor. Ability to operate a Gradall would be an asset.
Valid Ontario Drivers License, Class ‘D’ and ‘Z’ endorsement. And, for some of the equipment Class A and Z endorsement.
Clean Driver Abstract.

PURPOSE

Maintenance of County Roads and properties and completion of various construction projects as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment as instructed by the Area Supervisor or Construction Supervisor.
Operate mobile equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, graders, triaxles and other types of equipment used for road surface construction, maintenance and repair.
Operate mobile vehicles such as triaxles and tandems equipped with plow and wing, salt/sand spreaders, snow blowers and other types of equipment for snow and ice clearing.
Safely use power and hand tools such as chain saws, jack hammers, mowers, generators, compressors, pumps, trimmers hammers, wrenches, shovels.
Carry out circle checks on assigned vehicles and equipment. Perform associated maintenance and repairs (e.g., greasing, lightbulb replacements etc.)
Carry out a variety of general labourer type duties including but not limited to cutting brush, sign installation, traffic control, spray patching, pothole patching, bridge work, equipment and shop maintenance and cleaning etc.
Prepare and submit daily time sheets.
Carry out other duties as assigned.
Accept standby duty as assigned.
