Description:

OVERVIEW

The Care Concierge supports the unit and aids our patients with comfort measures. Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, the care concierge maintains a safe and clean environment. The Care Concierge will use FirstHealth’s safety behaviors/error prevention tools and high-reliability strategies to ensure a safe and therapeutic patient experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Department-specific certification requirements must be achieved within 90 days of employment.
Preferred: Bilingual
Certification Required:
Basic Cardiac Life Support/BCL

Responsibilities:

  • Upon completion of FirstHealth’s sponsored training program, the Care Concierge works within the nursing guidelines and FirstHealth’s policies and procedures.
  • Professional phone etiquette skills.
  • Clerical duties may be assigned as determined by unit leaders and unit needs, i.e., preparing patient charts, scheduling appointments, ordering supplies, logbooks, work orders, answering phones, and call lights. Assist with discharge paperwork, sort mail, and discharge thank you letters.
  • Uses Equipment/supplies correctly.
  • Uses appropriate safety and infection prevention measures.
  • Advises and reports information promptly.
  • Immediately notify the nurse of changes in the patient’s condition or behavior.
  • Assists patients with hand hygiene and personal care by obtaining and setting up bath supplies, obtaining linens, and providing clean gowns.
  • Assists patients with comfort measures by providing additional blankets and pillows, straightening bed sheets, fluffing pillows, and adjusting room temperature. Makes an unoccupied bed.
  • Assist nurse with patient ambulation.
  • Quickly respond in person to call lights and alarms. Resolves requests and issues quickly and alerts RN to requests unable to be filled.
  • Keeps patient rooms clean and neat by gathering supplies and stocking rooms, tidying room clutter, emptying trash, and removing dirty linen.
  • Assist with keeping non-patient care areas clean and neat by gathering supplies, stocking rooms, tidying cluttered areas, emptying trash, and removing dirty linens.
  • Assists with patients’ nutritional needs by preparing patients for mealtime by passing trays and picking up trays.
  • May assist with feeding patients as directed by RN or designee.
  • Actively participates with the care team in hourly rounding.
  • May assist clinical team members with the admission, discharge, and transfer processes: Gathers and labels patient belongings for transfer or discharge and accompanies patient when indicated. Orients patient/family using call bell, lights, phone, emergency call bell, and television.
  • Adheres to safety measures: Uses side rails as needed, keeps call bell close to patient, employs infection prevention measures (handwashing, posted isolation precautions, universal precautions), utilizes safety devices and good body mechanics to avoid injury to patient or self, initiates, maintains, and verifies bed alarms.
  • Cleans equipment according to policy and returns it to the appropriate area and unit. Maintains cleanliness in patient room, utility room, and desk area. Keeps hallways clear of equipment.
  • Teamwork: Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members/internal customers. Consistently demonstrates a willingness to adjust activities to accommodate the needs of team members/internal customers. Helps others when time is available.
  • Assists with resolving conflict using a chain of command, as appropriate. Accepts responsibility for actions and responds positively to feedback from others. Other duties as needed.
