POSITION SUMMARY

KFF is seeking a Policy Analyst with strong data skills and experience to support KFF’s Women’s Health Policy work on health care experiences, utilization, spending, and affordability with an emphasis on contraception, abortion and maternal health. Qualified applicants will demonstrate strong analytic skills, experience working with large data sets, and a genuine interest in women’s health and reproductive care. Applicants should be enthusiastic about the work conducted by KFF and interested in joining a team dedicated to the unique operating style and mission of KFF.

MINIMUM DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in public health, public policy preferred, plus minimum one to three years relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with large datasets, preferably including health care claims, surveys, and/or administrative data.
  • Minimum of two years of experience and demonstrated competence in statistical programming, with a preference for fluency in R and SAS.
  • Knowledge of and experience with, women’s health policy.
  • Proven ability to apply research methods and statistical concepts, especially as they relate to health care, as demonstrated by academic training and/or work experience.
  • Ability to work independently on concurrent projects and balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate quantitative findings for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Inquisitive, creative, productive, positive-minded, and results oriented.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

    This full-time position will be based in KFF’s San Francisco office or in KFF’s Washington, DC office, located downtown near Metro Center, with the potential for a remote position. KFF is currently working a hybrid schedule and requires all staff to work in the office a minimum of 2 days a week. The position is term-limited through September 30, 2025 with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct data analysis of Medicaid and employer plan claims data, and in-house survey data, focused on women’s health policy including contraception, abortion, maternal health, and other topics important to women’s health.
  • Work independently to conduct quantitative analyses assessing utilization, spending, and out-of-pocket costs of sexual and reproductive health services, including defining analytic approaches, debugging and running code to carry out analyses, and writing up descriptions of methodologies and results.
  • Write and prepare fact sheets, policy briefs, and other background documents.
  • Conceptualize and prepare creative data displays and visualization, including figures, tables, interactives, and other data visualizations.
  • Keep abreast of existing and new datasets, as well as current health policy issues, with an emphasis on women’s health policy issues
