POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of WordPress.
- An expert in HTML5 and CSS3.
- Thorough understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues.
- Strong understanding of responsive web design techniques.
- Understanding of W3C web standards/semantics and accessibility guidelines (WCAG AccessibilityBC or AODA AAA).
- Positive and upbeat attitude with the ability to learn quickly.
- Strong project management, multitasking, and problem-solving ability.
- Impeccable attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of GDPR and CASL legislation.
Education and Experience:
- Experience in Headless WordPress and Gutenberg.
- Experience in Figma.
- Portfolio of WordPress websites where the contractor was a key player in the development of the website.
Responsibilities:
PRIMARY PURPOSE
University Canada West is looking for a temporary contractor to support its new website migration. The ideal fit is someone who has expert experience in WordPress as well as an understanding of website accessibility. This role will work closely with our in-house Webmaster and greater digital marketing team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The WordPress Frontend Developer, will, at various times, be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support UCW’s business objectives, mission, and purpose:
- Create Figma wireframes for new and current pages on the UCW website based on pre-set blocks and brand guidelines.
- Build out Figma wireframes to responsive and accessible designs in WordPress prior to the new website launch date.
- Provide support such as reworking menus, adding CPT tags/categories, and moving or archiving pages to match up with website IA.
- Completion of a QA audit of the site prior to going live, including checking for cross-browser compatibility and accessibility compliance.
