Job Summary:
As a Workers Compensation (WC) Specialist, you are responsible for overseeing and coordinating workers’ compensation claims reporting and management across all Ledcor operating groups in Canada and the US. Liaising with WC entity representatives and associated 3rd parties, you will have a deep understanding of processes required for effective disability case management. As the WC Specialist you will be relied on to facilitate communication between employees, healthcare providers, jurisdictional boards and insurance companies where necessary to ensure conformance to Ledcor’s occupational injury/ illness processes, and compliance with legal and other requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary Ledcor contact and liaison with all provincial and state WC entities, insurance agents, 3rd party administrators (TPA), consultants, and legal counsel
- Provide guidance and recommendations to operations, HS&E and shared services stakeholders on workers’ compensation matters, helping them understand the implications of claims and necessary actions
- Report, coordinate, process, and monitor worker’s compensation claims with varying levels of complexity through to closure
- Advise on and direct the activities of 3rd party consultants managing complex claims through insurance agencies and claims undergoing appeals with jurisdictional WC entities
- Respond to claims inquiries and provide technical expertise to operations, HS&E, and shared services stakeholders concerning WC processes, legal and other requirements
- Conduct thorough evaluation of workplace injury/illness incidents to ensure claims are directed to appropriate insurance benefits
- Request, open, manage and maintain WC accounts for all Ledcor operating entities
- Monitor account payments and coverages and escalate issues affecting account statuses to appropriate operations, HS&E, and shared services stakeholders
- Complete data capture, prepare, and distribute premium rate and claims cost reports to appropriate operations and HS&E leaders
- Review accuracy of injury/illness data in Ledcor’s Incident Management System (IMS) and update injury classifications and other inputs for statistics reporting
- Support the development and maintenance of training and processes related to Ledcor’s occupational injury/ illness management and return-to-work processes
Requirements:
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in managing workers compensation claims
- University degree or diploma in Disability Management, Health, or social sciences preferred
- Disability Management Certificate/Designation (e.g. CDMP) is an asset
- Previous experience in managing claims appeals and familiarity with tribunal functions
- Previous experience working with complex claim handlers and defense council on private insurance litigation claims in the US
- Strong knowledge of worker’s compensation requirements across multiple jurisdictions in Canada and the US
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint with an aptitude for learning various computer software systems
- English & French language, written & oral, is considered an asset.
