Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

WSDOT is currently seeking a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual from the maritime industry to fill the Workforce Outreach Coordinator position located in Seattle, WA. This position will serve as the expert-level advisor to management and external maritime educational programs on establishing and maintaining workforce community partnerships that focus on building resiliency in the workforce pipeline at Washington State Ferries (WSF). The position’s focus is to market maritime employment as a future career and partner with education and community resource groups to encourage interest in future employment with WSF. Our top candidate must have a strong knowledge of the maritime workforce needs and be able to implement strategies that support long-term development of current and prospective employees, ultimately increasing and improving applicant pools for positions in the ferry system.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Experience performing outreach and engagement activities in employment programs, adult education or training capacity, equity/civil rights programs, recruitment, outreach, talent development, training, marketing, or communications.
  • Experience leading projects or programs through implementation, including maintaining schedules and milestones, identifying performance measures, taking progressive action toward reaching project goals, coordinating resources, identifying and communicating with stakeholders, and performance reporting of project or program outcomes.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, ability to develop and manage relationships with various community partners and agency leadership.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and develop marketing campaigns.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite with the ability to draft reports, correspondence, and outreach action plans for public distribution.
  • Ability to communicate and present information to diverse audiences through written correspondence and public speaking events.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first month of employment.
  • The ability to travel to multiple work sites and events throughout the Puget Sound on a frequent and reoccurring basis.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Experience working in and/or with maritime sector employment.
  • Familiarity with WSF/WSDOT culture, values, and strategic goals.
  • Working knowledge of tools that leverage social networking.
  • Working knowledge of databases and data reporting.
  • Experience in planning and organizing large-scale outreach events.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with agency subject-matter experts to identify and document required career competencies.
  • Present competency-based curriculum and training needs from the employer perspective to educational business partners to help inform external training and educational programs.
  • Build and sustain working relationships with external local, technical, vocational, maritime, educational and career outreach programs.
  • Develop maritime industry and community networks to broaden learning and credentialing resources and opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to students, community partners, transitional service providers, and participants on career opportunities and pathways within WSF.
  • Research opportunities and develop connections with community organizations, schools, tribal communities, etc.
  • Serve as the WSF representative in partnership with Seattle Central Community College/Seattle Maritime Academy (SCCC).
  • Assist in the development and implementation of sustainable and progressive diversity, equity, and inclusion practices for the organization and in support of WSDOT strategic plan initiatives
