McMillan has an exciting 15-month contract opportunity as a Writer – Marketing and Communications in our Toronto office. As McMillan’s Writer for marketing and communications, you will have opportunity to create compelling stories, develop interesting content and deliver communications, from print to digital. Working as a member of the Marketing and Business Development team, you will take direction from our Director, Client Relations and work across integrated teams to bring message consistency to targeted audiences.
STRATEGY & PLANNING
We are seeking a skilled writer who will play a critical role in aligning our message and content development with the firm’s market position across disciplines, industries and communities. The ideal candidate will proactively source content from subject matter experts, industry and firm leadership to develop multi-channel communications. Additionally, this role will involve collaborating closely with our team to contribute to the development of the firm’s content strategy and content calendar
WHAT YOU BRING
We are looking for a strong critical thinker, writer, editor, and have strong oral communication skills with proven ability to write all types of material for diverse audiences ranging from invitations, invitations to email campaigns, website bios, internal and external announcements, social posts and news items, monthly newsletters and brochures.
The ideal candidate will possess strong copy editing skills, adhering to the Canadian Press style guide, with a sharp eye for consistency in writing, including spelling, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, tone, style, and grammar. They should have experience with the production requirements for various media formats, including print, digital, social, web, and video. Demonstrated experience in supporting social and digital communication campaigns, with a solid understanding of content marketing strategy, is essential.
Proficiency in project management, with the ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines, is crucial. The candidate should be capable of effectively influencing others through thoughtful and tactful communication, with the ability to identify and respond to contentious, politically, and culturally sensitive issues with discretion.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic self-starter who excels in collaboration and can work proactively and independently within a team environment. An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, combined with 4-7 years of experience in public relations or corporate communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A strong understanding of the legal industry is highly valued.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365, content management systems, and social media channels is essential, with experience in SharePoint environments considered an asset. Flexibility for overtime is required, and bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
