Youth Care Worker – Dease Lake School
Dease Lake School is now accepting applications for the full-time continuing position of Youth Care Worker effective August 29th, 2024. This position is 29 hours per week. The rate of pay is $39.40 per hour. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by C.U.P.E. (local 2052-02) collective agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Incumbents will have a minimum Grade 12 supplemented by graduation from a recognized two-year post-secondary program (i.e., Social Services Diploma Program; Child or Youth Care Workers Program, or equivalent) plus training and experience in the areas of behaviour management, counseling, etc. In addition, the incumbent must have demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous culture and 2-3 years’ experience in working with Indigenous people in an education setting. The incumbent must have the following:
Considerable working knowledge of the needs of ‘at-risk’ Students and current intervention/counseling strategies.
Considerable working knowledge of the Indigenous Cultures, Heritages, and value systems.
Working knowledge of community service/support agencies.
Working knowledge of the district child abuse protocol and reporting procedures.
Ability to work with computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom) at a basic level.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with all internal and external contacts; a helpful and pleasant manner when dealing with others.
Proven ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Proven ability to work in a cooperative team environment, offering assistance to co-workers as required.
Ability to provide guidance and direction to others; proven ability to explain information or instructions to others.
Sufficient physical capabilities, stamina, and coordination to perform the duties of the position to the required standard; no mental or physical limitations and good health.
