REQUIREMENTS

  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
  • A reliable vehicle insured for business use and 2 million liability.
  • A degree in a relevant field (e.g., career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, human services, counselling, education, or human resources management) is preferred. A two-year diploma in a relevant field with 2 years experience in same role will be considered.
  • Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques.
  • Experience developing and delivering employment and life skills related workshops and one-to-one employment counselling to individuals with multiple barriers to employment.
  • Experience working with youth and young adults.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, electronic communications, database software and in the use of video teleconferencing software programs.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of employment-related support services, the labour market as well as the various challenges facing employment seekers.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse participant populations in a results-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing employer / participant linkages to complete work experience placements in the community.

The following are considered assets for this position:

  • A Certified Career Development Practitioner designation.
  • Recruiter and/or Job developer experience.
  • Personality Dimensions Certification with experience facilitating Personality Dimensions.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

BGC has two full time Youth Employment Counsellor position opportunities in our Youth Employment Program (YEP).

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Youth Employment Counsellor works with the employment team to provide young people facing barriers to employment with skills development, mentoring and work experience opportunities to successfully transition into the labor market and maintain employment. The Youth Employment Counsellor markets BGC South Coast BC (BGC) employment services to employers and recruits eligible potential participants.

JOB DUTIES

  • Understands and works in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards set out by BGC and funders to meet project milestones and outcomes.
  • Recruit’s participants including completion of intake and assessment, obtaining relevant information to determine program eligibility for prospective participants.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops, ensuring that curriculum and materials are updated, relevant, and meet the needs of participant groups and employer partners.
  • Facilitates a wide range of pre-employment and job search skills workshops to assist participants in their overall employment readiness.
  • Assists participants in the development of action plans, life skills, job finding strategies, and skills development in both one-to-one and group settings.
  • Works with the employment team to review and support participant action plans.
  • Provides current employment related knowledge such as labor market information, employment standards, and on-line job search strategies.
  • Completes real-time objective documentation of all communication and activities with participants, using data-based software.
  • Provides job development support and mentoring on a scheduled and as-needed basis with individual participants.
  • Introduces participants to online job search tools to access and generate job leads.
  • Develops relationships with employers and provides participants with ongoing coaching and support to develop employment opportunities and ensure a positive experience.
  • Arranges job interviews with employer partners; develops new community employer partnerships and maintains current employer relationships.
  • Monitors post-employment success of participants to ensure outcomes are met.
  • Provides community assistance and social supports that contribute to participants’ needs as well as their social well-being, such as arranging counselling services, making referrals to community programs and housing support.
  • Ensures that accurate and up-to-date program and participant records are maintained and complete.
  • May work in other employment programs during high volumes and/or coverage needs as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
