Your new job
The Youth Peer Work Coordinator will provide the Peer Workforce at headspace centres in Glenroy, Craigieburn, Werribee, Sunshine and Melton discipline specific supervision. The role supports the youth peer work team to deliver timely and effective engagement with young people, encourages referral pathways and elevates the voice of young people within Orygen and the headspace centres.

Reporting to the Service Development Lead you will:

  • Provide regular discipline specific supervision, professional development and support to youth peer workers in Primary Care services.
  • Coordinate reflective and skills-based peer work group and individual supervision, facilitating meetings with minutes and agendas.
  • Support and mentor youth peer workers in their daily activities, including working alongside them as required.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff regarding youth peer work, lived experience, youth inclusive practice principles and approaches.
  • Support the Clinical Services Manager to engage Youth Peer Workers in the relevant headspace teams.

What you’ll need

You are passionate, energetic and determined to make a difference to health and wellbeing outcomes for young people. The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • Current enrollment, intention to enroll or completion of a relevant course (such as the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work) or equivalent work experience in a lived experience leadership role.
  • Completion or intention to enroll in Consumer Perspective Supervision Training or equivalent.
  • A minimum of twelve months experience working in a lived experience role and demonstrated experience in providing youth peer support or supporting others using their lived experience in a youth mental health setting and personal lived experience of mental ill health challenges.
  • Capacity and willingness to conduct training and group programs with staff, young people and families and carers.
  • Capacity to problem solve effectively, engage and work creatively with other staff and young people.
