Description GMHC is seeking a Clinical Supervisor to provide clinical support, supervision, and guidance to staff serving clients in Supportive Housing program. This role focuses on enhancing the quality of services through coaching, case consultation, and oversight of clinical documentation to ensure trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centered care. This role works closely with staff to address the needs of clients, many of whom are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and supports them in connecting individuals to appropriate medical, mental health, substance use, and housing resources. This position plays a key role in reviewing assessments, monitoring service plans, and providing clinical input that strengthens client engagement and improves outcomes. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the Clinical Supervisor fosters collaborative problem-solving, helps address crises, and ensures that staff have the tools, skills, and guidance to navigate complex needs. This is an opportunity for a skilled and compassionate clinician to make a meaningful impact by supporting both clients and the dedicated professionals who serve them, while working in an inclusive and supportive environment. Essential Job Functions The Clinical Supervisor will be responsible for the following duties: Client Oversight & Staff Support: Provide clinical leadership and serve as a resource to optimize treatment outcome for client in Supportive Housing programs. Act as a positive change agent to implement initiatives that improve client care quality. Hold regular, structured supervision and case review meetings with staff to address treatments, client progress, and professional development. Promote and model a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach in all aspects of client care and staff supervision. Train and mentor staff in effective engagement strategies that build trust and empower clients to actively participate in their care planning. Provide training and guidance on client engagement, de-escalation techniques, quality documentation, motivational interviewing, professional boundaries, and trauma-informed care. Offer clinical consultation and support to staff managing clients with co-occurring behavioral health, substance use, and chronic medical conditions. Client Assessment & Care Coordination: Conduct or oversee comprehensive psychosocial assessments to identify client strengths, needs, and service goals. Facilitate and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and care planning sessions. Guide staff in developing and revising individualized service plans to ensure alignment with best practices, client needs, and contractual requirements. Ensure that service planning and interventions are trauma-informed, client-centered, and aligned with best practices for supportive housing. Monitor client progress toward goals, adjusting interventions and supports as necessary. Provide or coordinate therapeutic interventions for clients experiencing mental health crisis. Field-Based Clinical Activities: Conduct or oversee home visits to assess living environments, address safety concerns, and support adherence to service plan goals. Establish and maintain trusting, therapeutic relationships with clients through consistent, respectful, and client-centered engagement, including regular home visits and in-person interactions. Use active listening and culturally responsive communication to foster rapport and encourage client participation in services. Collaborate with staff to address barriers to housing stability and connect clients with appropriate resources. Ensure services delivered in the field are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based. Documentation, Compliance & Quality Improvement Review and monitor clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency, contractual, and regulatory standards. Ensure clinical documentation reflects trauma-informed and strengths-based care approaches. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all services, including: o Quarterly service plans and ongoing assessments. o Monthly progress notes reflecting client progress and engagement. o Completion of monthly home visit documentation. o Data entry of contract deliverables into eCOMPAS, AWARDS, and other tracking systems. Monitor confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations, including those related to substance use treatment. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing program requirements, funding guidelines, and applicable laws. Participate in quality assurance activities, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective action plans. Collaboration & Additional Duties: Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal departments and external service providers to enhance coordinated care. Serve as a liaison between the housing programs and other clinical or supportive service programs within the agency. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements Special Skills and Knowledge Required: Strong clinical expertise in working with individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, mental health conditions, and substance use/misuse and complex co-occurring diagnoses. Deep understanding of trauma-informed, harm reduction, recovery-based models of care, with proficiency in motivational interviewing and other evidence-based practices. Experience working with diverse populations, including communities of color (POC) and LGBTQ+ individuals. Familiarity with psychiatric care, vocational training, and intensive treatment options to support holistic client well-being. Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, develop safety plans, and create individualized care strategies. Strong leadership, organizational, and supervisory skills, with the ability to mentor and support clinical staff. Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary treatment team. Preferred: Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Knowledge of community resources related to mental health, substance use, housing assistance, and benefits navigation. Experience in an interdisciplinary service delivery environment. Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities, historically marginalized populations, and nonprofit organizations. Strong presentation and training facilitation skills. Education and Certification Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a Doctoral degree in Psychology is required. New York State licensure or permit allowing the provision of psychotherapy (e.g., LMSW, LMHC, LCSW) is required; LCSW preferred. SIFI (Seminar in Field Instruction) eligibility is preferred for social work candidates. Completion of training or certification in crisis intervention, harm reduction, or trauma-informed care (preferred). Technical Skills Applicants should demonstrate an intermediate to high level of proficiency in: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including: Data tracking and analysis for case management and program reporting. Creating and managing spreadsheets to monitor client progress and deliverables. Using formulas, pivot tables, and data validation to ensure accuracy in documentation. Word (creating case notes, service plans, and official correspondence). PowerPoint (preparing presentations for internal and external stakeholders). Experience with electronic case management and data tracking systems, such as: eCOMPAS, AWARDS, or similar platforms for documentation and compliance reporting. Data entry and management to ensure contract deliverables are accurately recorded. Familiarity with government benefit systems and entitlement programs, including: Social Security, Medicaid, SNAP, and Housing Assistance Programs. Ability to navigate online portals and submit required client documentation. Strong documentation and compliance skills, ensuring: Accurate case notes and service plans in adherence to regulatory requirements. Confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other legal protections. Work Environment & Schedule This is a hybrid position requiring a mix of: In-Office: Meetings, supervision, documentation review, and case conferencing.
