The Witness Assistance Service (WAS) is a specialist unit within the ODPP which works as part of the prosecution team to assist and support victims of crime and vulnerable witnesses through the criminal justice process to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient prosecution service.
The Witness Assistance Service, Director leads the operational management of the entire WAS function statewide and holds accountability for ensuring delivery on the ODPP’s commitment to victims and witnesses, obligations under the ODPP Prosecution Guidelines and other policies and the NSW Charter of Victim’s Rights (Victim Rights and Support Act 2013). The Witness Assistance Service, Director also ensures ODPP staff are given the opportunity to enjoy rewarding and challenging careers and provides strategic and inspirational leadership.
As the Witness Assistance Service, Director you will work closely with the Executive and Director’s Chambers to facilitate improved engagement, recognition and input across the Office regarding WAS policy, advice and representation in line with the Office’s strategic plan to provide a more trauma informed prosecution service.
