ABOUT US:

The Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security correctional facility located on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD. The Prison is the State’s main reception prison, receiving prisoners directly from the Courts and Police and provides assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system. The MAP also operates the Melbourne County Court, Supreme Court and Supreme Court Appeals custody facilities, located on the corners of William and Lonsdale Streets in the CBD.
These facilities manage both male and female prisoners of all security ratings, operating Monday to Friday. The location also manages the St Vincent’s Hospital holding cells, providing custodial liaison and coordination of all prisoner escorts attending the hospital for medical outpatient appointments from prison locations across the State. Map also looks after the security function at the Adult Parole Board and the Post Sentence Authority located at 50 Franklin Street West Melboune.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Justice Officer Team Leader supervises a team of corporate services staff in the Department’s eight Regions, through which the compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
In a Justice Service Centre environment, a Team Leader oversees and assists with the provision of effective front and back of house Justice Services including the provision of operational and administrative support to regional program areas and services to clients visiting Justice Service Centres.
In the context of a prison, the Team Leader oversees and assists with the provision of effective corporate support services (as specified), within the unique operational environment of a correctional facility. In either context, the role requires a strong focus on ensuring the Justice Officer workforce is properly skilled and trained to deliver quality services. The role also requires a high degree of integrity, effective communication skills, an ability to resolve competing demands, problem-solving skills as well as an ability to monitor service delivery and compliance.

Some of your duties will include:

• Supervising the Property team in the delivery of all functions pertaining to prisoner property at the Melbourne Assessment Prison, including the maintenance of accurate data and documentation of prisoner property and oversight of the handling of visitor enquiries including the operation of the switchboard.
• Ensure the appropriate management of property from reception to storage and transfer ensuring the property is safe, secure and undamaged.
• Plan and prioritise the workload of the Property team, ensuring effective and efficient operations
