POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Maintenance Operations Roads and direction of the Leadhand, operates construction and maintenance equipment in a safe and proficient manner. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates construction and maintenance equipment within the classification. Operates other equipment when required. Inspects equipment daily and carries out minor servicing of equipment being operated. Reports all equipment defects. Fills out time cards and marks in proper account distribution. Reports materials used to the Supervisor, Leadhand, or stores personnel. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: GENERAL: Must be proficient in the operation of equipment in this classification; Must be capable of performing manual labouring duties; Must be reliable and able to perform routine work with minimal supervision; Must be able to understand, read, write, and speak English; Must be tactful and courteous with the public; Must possess and maintain a valid Class “D” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent with a ‘Z’ endorsement Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation SPECIFIC: Within one year of accepting the position, must attain Corporate Driver’s Certification and proficiency in the operation of two or more of the following: sidewalk maintenance equipment complete with all attachments; dump trucks; truck plows with wings; truck-mounted sanding/salting/pre-wetting units with on-board information systems; steamers; and jet rodders.
