Reporting to the Executive Director, Information Technology, this position is responsible for the management of staff, operational budget, and the success of information technology (IT) projects and initiatives for Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (Sask DLC) in multiple areas of technology systems, enterprise architecture, and applications support. IT at Sask DLC embodies the following technologies and includes: * Core business technology such as the Microsoft M365 tenant; * Data, Integrations & Automation Infrastructure; * Support for HCM, Payroll, & Finance technology platforms; * Support for Student Information Systems & Registration; * Education Technology platforms; * Printing and A/V technology; * Telecommunications technology; and * Network technology and architecture. Focused on delivering the highest level of customer service, this leadership position will foster collaboration with the other departments of the Sask DLC to ensure successful educational technology, as well as administrative and facilities construction/renovation, initiatives with respect to technology deployments and implementations are successfully achieved. This role is the operational head of IT staff and provides supports to students, parents, vendors, and outside proponents. Relationship management and collaboration is a key responsibility of this position. Primary Responsibilities: * Maintains operational IT department staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintains a safe and secure work environment; develops professional growth opportunities for the operational IT staff; communicates job expectations, and monitors performance. * Works with the Educational Technology team to maintain the organization's effectiveness by delivering and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies in an educational context. This includes: * * Assisting with the selection of suitable technology to support learning and curricular goals; * Evaluating applications in the areas of privacy management and cyber security risk and reporting findings back to Educational Technology, to aid and inform their selection decisions; and, * Facilitating ordering, receipt and distribution/delivery of end-user computing devices, software and applications related to Educational Technology, as needed. * Monitors and supports execution of operational IT projects by coordinating resources and timetables. * Initiates, coordinates, and enforces, in collaboration with Executive, Sask DLC Information Technology policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. * Ensures the Sask DLC IT Disaster Management and Response Plan (DMRP) for technology is maintained to align with Sask DLC policies, procedures, standards and guidelines, current technology implementations, risks and emergent risks/threats to provide maximum protection for Sask DLC technology assets, data and information. Also ensures the IT DMRP is in alignment and fully supports the organization’s overall DMRP, through collaborative development with other departments within the organization. * Develops and maintains a comprehensive Cyber Security strategy, designed to protect all users and digital assets of the organization. * Assures all IT activities are performed within the parameters of applicable laws, codes, and regulations. * Assist with creating a budget forecast to achieve the IT goals of Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre, which in turn contributes to the overall IT budget of the organization. * Oversees the development and implementation of a data architecture which supports integration between applications and automation. * Maintains quality of service by establishing and enforcing operational IT organization standards. * Supports and maintains government mandates in relation to operational IT daily operations and project initiatives. * Coordinating technology installations, upgrades, and maintenance. * Provides recommendations and assists with selecting and purchasing new and replacement hardware and software, when necessary. * Collaborate with educational delivery staff to develop initiatives to encourage interest and growth in STEM, and specifically Information Technology, Cyber Security and other related areas of technology, with the student body of the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre. * Coordinate the development and delivery of staff professional development on topics specific to operational IT. This will include topics such as onboarding, cyber security, etc. * Work with peers within the K-12 EDU and Higher Education sectors, to develop collaboration and information sharing opportunities. * Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Information Technology or assigned designate. Required Technical Qualifications * Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of a degree in Computer Science, or equivalent academic achievement, combined with extensive directly-related experience providing information technology knowledge and services at a leadership level to private or public sector organizations. * Expertise in the area of IT infrastructure principles and resulting architecture products. * Extensive knowledge of various IT tools (e.g. operating systems, programming languages, reporting tools, databases, monitoring software). * Knowledge of project and portfolio management processes and best practices. * Knowledge of strategic and tactical planning processes and best practices. * Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities including strong analytical and organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills such as negotiation, consensus- building, and issue-management. * Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve corporate / organization priorities and outcomes. * Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach employees to high performance. * Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas / concepts concisely, both verbally and in writing.
