School District No. 83 is current seeking:
0.800 FTE Indigenous Literacy/Numeracy Support Teacher
Indigenous Education
This is a temporary assignment effective April 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024. Schedule to be determined in consultation with District Principal of Indigenous Education and the school principals.
The assignment will be worked at North Shuswap Elementary, Carlin Elementary Middle School and South Canoe Elementary.
Qualifications:

A strong background in Indigenous history/studies or related course work is considered an asset;

  • valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch;

Teachers applying for this position should possess the following attributes:
demonstrated success working with Indigenous youth in an educational setting;
demonstrated ability to relate effectively and positively to students;
successful classroom teacher experience;
current knowledge of effective literacy instruction and assessment practices;
knowledge and experience with implementation of a balanced/comprehensive literacy program, Guided Reading, and PM Benchmarks;
knowledge and experience with implementation of effective small group literacy instruction;
proven success using PM Benchmarks and other formative assessments to guide literacy instruction;
ability to work in classrooms alongside teachers/support staff and contribute collaboratively as a team member;
ability to facilitate data and learning conversations with colleagues to help guide instructional focus, strategies, and next steps for students;
commitment to maintain a current knowledge base of literacy research, professional resources, assessment practices, and curriculum resources;
understanding of differentiated instruction, Response to Intervention model, and a Comprehensive Literacy Framework;
understanding of literacy for diverse learners and the ability to be responsive to the needs of the individual students;
strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and planning skills;
experience working collaboratively with teachers in their own classrooms with the pedagogy of the Math curriculum; ideally with a deep K-8 understanding;
demonstrated successful teaching in Math teaching at GradeK-8 level;
demonstrated use of a variety of instructional and assessment strategies; experience using assessment to guide instruction;
