POSITION OVERVIEW:
Penny Appeal Canada is seeking a dedicated and motivated Finance Officer to join our team as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Finance Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the finance department in various accounting and administrative tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in gaining hands-on experience in finance within the nonprofit sector.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated interest in the non-profit sector and humanitarian work is an asset.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* (international students are not eligible)
Responsibilities:
- Assist in processing financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Support the finance team in budget monitoring, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with team members to reconcile financial discrepancies and resolve any issues in a timely manner.
- Assist in conducting financial analysis and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Support the audit process by preparing documentation and assisting auditors as needed.
- Provide administrative support to the finance department, including filing, data entry, and correspondence management.
- Adhere to confidentiality and data protection policies in handling financial information.
