QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an institute of technology with a diploma in civil and structural technology, building technology, or related discipline, including or supplemented by courses in project management, plus considerable related experience preferably in a municipal setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of engineering principles, practices and techniques used, and experience with a variety of engineering software packages, databases, and utilities applications
  • Sound knowledge of budget and standard costing fundamentals for operations projects and programs
  • Ability to liaise and coordinate on major construction projects, contract documentation and administration of utilities operations projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with internal/external contacts, the public, consultants and contractors

Responsibilities:

  • Perform planning, design, estimating, inspection and review functions for municipal water and sanitary systems
  • Maintain computer models of utility systems to account for system changes
  • Respond to water system pressure information inquiries
  • Participate in initiatives to improve municipal utility performance and management
  • Prepare, review and maintain a variety of materials such as technical studies and status reports, correspondence, tender and project specifications
  • Draft reports, contract documents, letters/memos and related correspondence including request for proposals and tenders
  • Coordinate utilities programs and liaise with a variety of internal/external contacts, consultants, contractors and other agencies on engineering requirements, policies and related matters
  • Respond to enquiries/complaints and provide solutions to a variety of situations
  • Perform related work as required
