Description:

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this position is to provide day-to-day operational supervision in the Domestic Trade Settlement area and to support and assist the Foreign Exchange section of the Trade Settlement area within the Financial Markets Department (FMD) of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will be responsible for, among other things, the following key performance areas:

  • Lead the team and reinforce positive working relationships with team members.
  • Carry out people management responsibilities including the performance management of staff.
  • Supervise and monitor trade flows from trade execution to settlement, while ensuring that all controls to mitigate any risks are adhered to.
  • Check and authorise all instructions related to government bonds and money market instruments.
  • Support the team with committing to trades timeously to meet bond settlement runs.
  • Assist with the lodging of collateral.
  • Assume full responsibility for formalised and day-to day operational risk management as well as internal control in the Trade Settlement area.
  • Ensure that Strate rules and directives are adhered to.
  • Review all the procedure manuals and ensure they are updated annually.
  • Oversee ad hoc internal and external client queries.
  • Prepare reports and assist with streamlining the work of the domestic team.
  • Maintain operational relationships with clients and counterparties.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects.
  • Encourage collaboration and be innovative.
