POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an exceptional professional classroom teacher to join our team for the 2024 summer program, specifically to work with rising ninth graders. This role is pivotal in preparing students for a successful high school journey, focusing on academic skills, study habits, and social-emotional learning. Our unique Project Based Learning curriculum will explore pollution and air quality issues in San Francisco, blending research, community engagement, and personal reflection.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Summer (Remote, ~20 hours total): Collaborate with our curriculum team to refine our summer program and reach out to students for introductions.
  • Summer Program: Teach and facilitate project work, lead advisory sessions, and hold office hours, committing approximately 25 hours per week on-site at SF Day School.
  • Wrap-Up (Remote, ~10 hours total): Provide detailed student reports and curriculum feedback and participate in a final program review.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least two years of successful teaching experience at the middle or high school level, ideally with ninth graders.
  • Deep subject knowledge and resourcefulness.
  • Commitment to high academic standards, supportiveness, and positive student relationships.
  • Proactive engagement with discussions on identity, race, gender, and social justice.
  • Experience in curriculum development and a creative, energetic approach.
  • Familiarity with Breakthrough, Summerbridge, or San Francisco schools is advantageous.
