Description:
North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS)
Fixed term temporary full-time role up to 12 months, 76 hours p.f.
The Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner will work across First Nation communities providing advanced professional and cultural leadership to the Maternal Child Youth Health team. The ATSIHP provides delivery and coordination of professional, safe, and quality patient and family centred Health Worker care. The ATSIHP is committed to enhancing and enabling patient experience and outcomes by leading, support, collaboration, and partnership with patient, families/carers, and other health service providers.
To bring lived experience as an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander person into practice, build strong relationships with the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities of Mount Isa, Mornington Island and Doomadgee and have commitment and passion for working within a community co-designed and co-led service. The role will be required to be committed to working in partnership with women and their families within a supportive multidisciplinary team from conception to the First 2000 days. You will be expected to work autonomously within the community, in line with the delegation of authority framework for Health Practitioners.
The position relies on the ability of the ATSIHP to deliver primary health care programs in response to health needs of individuals, groups and communities identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and their families. You will be expected to utilise advance level of clinical skills to deliver health assessment, community screening and primary health care intervention. This position is funded through Keeping First Nations Mums and Bubs on Country initiative aimed at supporting families to stay on country and thrive.
The Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner reports to the Nurse Unit Manager Maternal Child Youth Health

- base salary ranges between $3526.50 - $4157.50 p.f. (HWF4).

Role requirements
- Identified role: to be filled by a member of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
- Registration with AHPRA as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner.
- Successfully completed a Certificate IV Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice)
- Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.
- A working with children check.
- Valid Driving Licence.
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant.
- VPD risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
- A period of probation may apply
