POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer is to provide cultural safe support to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander patients and families by empowering them participate fully in their health care management, to achieve better health outcomes.
Note: Applicants must be male and must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Bass Coast Health considers that being a male Aboriginal and/or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).

Requirements of the position are:

  • Must identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Demonstrated commitment to the care and support to the Aboriginal Community
  • Demonstrated experience with assisting clients with cultural safety in a health setting
  • Local community knowledge
  • An understanding of holistic approach to health care
  • Demonstrated experience of working with knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and how to effectively communicate with Aboriginal people is essential
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal young people, families, Communities and service providers
  • Demonstrated ability to be organised and effectively manage responsibilities and own priorities
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and ability to liaise with key stakeholders
  • Relationship management skills and the ability to deal with a diverse, and often competing, range of expectations and Community needs.
  • Demonstrated sound organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to prepare submissions and reports
  • Demonstrated competency in using databases, Microsoft Office programs and communication tools, such as social and other emerging media
  • A valid Police Check
  • COVID-19 Vaccination in accordance with the Chief Health officer -COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Directions
  • Healthcare to whom the mandatory vaccination (influenza vaccination) directions apply, will be required to be vaccinated annually
  • Valid Police Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • COVID-19 Vaccination in accordance with the Chief Health officer COVID-19 Mandatory vaccination Directions
