Here in the ISIS Accelerator Beam Diagnostics Group, we are thrilled to bring on board a summer placement student this year.
We design, build, and maintain the systems that monitor the condition of the ion and proton beams in the ISIS accelerator. We are a multi-disciplinary group, combining electronic engineers, mechanical engineers, software engineers, and physicists. So, we will be able to help you understand everything about particle accelerators from the engineering input to the science output.
This opportunity will work with the software team to create a motor control library in Arduino C/C++ for controlling a diverse range of motorised diagnostic monitors.

Responsibilities:

Within this placement, responsibilities will include:

  • Creating a motor control library in Arduino C/C++
  • Performing lab-based tests of the library
  • Documenting the library
  • Presenting the library at a diagnostics software meeting
