Job description:
GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world’s largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work together in this international environment with a team of employees committed to ensuring each day to conduct world-class science.
In this context we are looking at the earliest convenience for an
Responsibilities:
- You will develop concepts for the cost-efficient production of mixed ion beams in therapy facilities, ranging from producing ions in the source to pre-acceleration in a linear accelerator to slow extraction from the synchrotron
- You will develop methods for the production of mixed ion beams in the synchrotron SIS18, exploiting the wide array of options available in the GSI accelerator complex. You will coordinate the necessary additions in the accelerator control system and test your developments in machine experiments
- You will conduct simulations of beam dynamics of the production of mixed ion beams, especially concerning the injection, acceleration and slow extraction in the SIS18
- You will publish your results in scientific journals and present them at conferences.
